2013 Andouille Festival

“A Smokin’ Good Time”

Engulfed with savory food, live music, contests, award winning artists and fun, the 40th annual Andouille Festival indeed offers a full plate of pure enjoyment for the entire family. I was truly impressed with the depth the festival offered it matched the true spirit of Louisiana, truly engaging at so many levels. I photographed and mingled with festival goers enjoying the smorgasbord of southern cooking that was offered. Vendors cooked and served up gumbo, warm fresh cracklings, stewed okra and of course the mouthwatering Andouille itself from which the fest is named after.

The festivals stellar lineup included live music by: Shot Time, Roddie Romero & the Hub City Allstars, No Idea, John Lisi and Delta Funk, Bucktown All-Stars, Cayenne, Rebirth Brass Band, Phunky Monkeys, Changing Times Band, Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue, MoJeaux, 90 Degrees West, Amanda Shaw & the Cute Guys, Chubby Carrier & The Bayou Swamp Band.

Additionally, this year marked the return of the Official Festival Print.  The commemorative print by award winning artist Jamar Pierre is limited to only 500 prints. I had an opportunity to catch up with Mr. Pierre, and he expressed what a joy it was to be a part of the Fest.

Culminating the festival on Sunday was the “Andouille Run” and the Jazz Brunch featuring jazz saxophone sensation, Quintin Gerard.  Festival goers continued live music and festivities throughout the day on Sunday including performances at The Gospel Tent on the Lagniappe Stage featuring: Shekinah Glory Dance Ministry, ZDL + PhaZe, ChoZen Praise Dance Ministry, Fresh Faith Praise Team, From My Heart to Yours Praise Team, Our Lady of Grace, Spirit of Liberty Praise Team, Donald Godbolt & Spiritual Gifts, MMCOGIC Swans of Praise Dance..

This years line up was a huge testament to the growth and development of St. John the Baptist Parish.  A little over a year ago hurricane Issac devastated the area, but the resilience and steadfastness of President Natalie Robottom, Director of Economic Development Torri Buckles and parish staff, St. John the Baptist Parish is not only back but its making huge strides! So, the next time you think festival time in Louisiana. Think Andouille Fest! I am looking forward to next year already!!
